best of 2015

My life is more or less run by lists. I make them at work and at home, and I know few greater feelings than that of scratching off a particularly arduous task on a ‘to-do’ list. Without a list in the grocery store, I’m like a lost sheep who’s easily distracted by bright colors and clever packaging (I’m a marketer’s dream, I swear) so I need a definitive list to keep me on track. I’m also a bit of a sucker for a good ‘best of’ list (PopSugar’s rundown of the best black tights had me on the edge of my seat, and I’m not even kidding. I find joy in the somewhat mundane, and maybe that’s weird but lists and tights really do get me going.) Without further adieu, here’s my personal ‘Best Of’ picks for 2015. Enjoy!

Best of Blogs

Cakespy has really been hitting it out of the park for me this year when it comes to honesty and frankness surrounding disordered eating and body image. Her writing style is easy to read yet incredibly thought-provoking, and I can’t wait to see what she does in 2016.

I’ve also become a fan of Hipstercrite following her ‘Dear People Who Live in Fancy Tiny Houses’ post that blew up the Internet. She’s also a local Austin gal (East Side too!) and writes about local goings-on from time to time.

In terms of strictly fashion and beauty, Franish is always consistent, helpful and transparent in her ‘c/o’ posts and monthly budgeting. She’s also in med school so I have NO idea how the woman does it all, but she makes it happen.

Best of Instagram

@nolatrees – Yogi from New Orleans whose inner and outer beauty is contagious.

@tindernightmares – If you’ve not yet caught on to this one, go read some of their backlog of *actual* screen grabs from Tinder interactions. Comedy gold.

@kasmirakit – I met her at TxSC this past March and I absolutely love her outfit posts. So quirky and such a truly unique style.

As for my personal best, I think my best moment of 2015 was the big head shave that happened in the spring. I’ve since let it grow a bit and shaved it back down two or three more times, and I may never grow it back out any longer than a short pixie ‘do. It’s just so easy! And cheap! Life: forever changed. I highly recommend it to any woman looking to simplify her life.

There you have it: some of the best of the best in my book. This is my ‘Best Of’ for the year, now give me some of yours in the comments!

Great list! (I am also an unapologetic fan of lists, and love crossing things off). Though I’m surprised Iceland didn’t make an appearance on yours!

My person best of is pretty clear: planning a wedding and getting married! Let’s be honest, that kind of swallowed my whole year. 🙂

I don’t have anything to add to the Best of Blogs list; I pretty much stopped reading blogs regularly this year. May try to get back into it.

Of course the wedding was your personal top pick: how could it not be?! It was fabulous. And Iceland was definitely a close second, but I feel like the head shave keeps giving back in the form of no more expensive haircuts, hair products, and time spent doing my damn hair. I can’t wait to see what Studio Guerassio takes on in 2016!
