Today marks six years since I published my very first blog post. Six years! I can’t think of anything I’ve kept up for six whole years, except candy eating and fashion fiending, natch. I recently took on the project of cleaning up old posts on this thing: I didn’t change any content, but there were lots of aesthetic issues within posts (photo and text alignment, mostly) and it was a kick in the pants to look back at old things I’d written that I hadn’t read in a long time. I’m proud of most of the things I’ve written, and I have to say, it’s interesting to see how my attitude and overall tone of this blog has evolved over the years. A few personal favorites:
- the best customer service experience I ever had
- merkins in Seattle
- my love/hate relationship with yoga
- self-love and my peeps
Are there things I regret writing? Sure. This post was intended to poke fun at my own silliness, and in retrospect I wish I hadn’t been so flippant about using the term ‘slut’. Honestly, the discourse around that word and reclaiming it has opened my eyes to its connotations, and I wish I hadn’t chosen that particular word, but I’m keeping it up because I like being able to see the honest evolution of this thing. It is, to some degree, a reflection of who I am, and it’s served to chronicle my personal growth in addition to the evolution of the blog and writing itself.
I’ve learned a ton from my fellow bloggers as well. The local Austin female blogger/maker/entrepreneurial community is quite active and supportive of one another, and it’s easy to get involved and collaborate. In ‘non-local blogs I follow’ news, the Hollywood Housewife recently announced her departure from blogging, and wrote a great piece about what she’s learned. I can only hope that I keep this project up throughout the years: it’s been two buckets of fun, and that’s mostly due to the fabulous people I’ve met throughout the process. To celebrate, I’ll likely be partying the only way I know how: with lots of sugar. Here are some pics of a few sweets I’ve enjoyed along the way to commemorate the occasion. Enjoy (vicariously)!
Trophy Cupcakes in Seattle, 2011
Buc-ee’s candy spread, 2013

…and on my first birthday, 1982.
So here’s to six fun-filled years… I can’t wait to see how this blog evolves in the years to come!
